Things to Do in San Diego

Whether you have a few hours between conference sessions or you’re traveling with a spouse who wants to explore while you’re in meetings, there is plenty to see and do just steps from the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of your time in San Diego!

🏨At the Hotel

The daily resort fee is waived for ICE attendees, but the amenities are still included:

  • $15 Nightly Food and Beverage Credit (applied at checkout)
  • One hour Harbor Tour Cruise (available once per stay)
  • One Seven day pass for the GPSmyCity app
  • Daily 1 hour bicycle rental
  • 1 hour kayak rental per guest (available once per stay)
  • 20% off Tours, Rentals & Lessons (Everyday California)
  • 10% off Spa & Nail services at Hyde Edwards and Seaport Nails & Spa
  • 5% off Old Town Trolley Tours

🚶Close to the Hotel

Seaport Village (Waterfront Dining & Shopping)
Just steps from the hotel, Seaport Village is a waterfront destination featuring unique shops, restaurants, bay views and the historic carousel. It’s an easy option for a leisurely afternoon of shopping, grabbing a bite to eat or simply enjoying the waterfront.

Bicycle & Surrey Rentals
Explore the waterfront by bike or Surrey. The Embarcadero and surrounding waterfront offer miles of scenic paths, making this a fun way to see more of downtown San Diego.

Flagship Cruises
Get out on the water with a harbor cruise, whale-watching excursion or other sightseeing experience from San Diego Bay.

🌴 Explore Downtown San Diego

Gaslamp Quarter
Explore San Diego’s historic downtown neighborhood, known for its Victorian-era architecture, lively atmosphere, restaurants, rooftop bars, boutique shops and nightlife. Stroll the 16-block area during the day or return in the evening when the neighborhood really comes alive.

Little Italy
Stroll through one of San Diego’s most popular neighborhoods, known for Italian restaurants, outdoor patios, cafés, boutiques, art galleries and, of course, plenty of pizza and gelato.

Petco Park
Home of the San Diego Padres, Petco Park is located in the heart of downtown. Even if there’s not a game during your free time, consider taking a guided tour of the ballpark.

Old Town San Diego
Take a step back in time in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, considered the birthplace of modern California. Explore historic buildings, shops, museums and restaurants serving Mexican and California-inspired cuisine.

Old Town Trolley Tour
For anyone who wants to see a lot without figuring out transportation, the Old Town Trolley is a great option. The hop-on, hop-off route includes stops at Seaport Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, Petco Park, Coronado, Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Old Town and Little Italy.

🐼 Attractions & Entertainment

Balboa Park
Spend a few hours exploring this beautiful 1,000+ acre cultural park featuring museums, gardens, performing arts venues, restaurants and the San Diego Zoo. There is enough here to fill an entire afternoon.

San Diego Zoo
Located within Balboa Park, the world-famous San Diego Zoo is home to thousands of animals and is one of San Diego’s most iconic attractions.

Sea World San Diego

Make a day of it at SeaWorld, where you can get up close with marine animals, catch entertaining live shows and experience exciting rides and attractions. It’s a fun option for families, couples or anyone looking for a full day of entertainment.

🏖️ Spend the Day in Coronado

Coronado Island
Take a short trip across the bay to Coronado for beautiful beaches, charming shops, restaurants and the iconic Hotel del Coronado. Spend the day relaxing on the beach, exploring Orange Avenue or enjoying lunch with an ocean view. Coronado is also included as a stop on the Old Town Trolley route.

🛍️ Shopping

Fashion Valley
A great option for a shopping day, Fashion Valley features hundreds of stores, including luxury brands, department stores and plenty of dining options.

Westfield UTC
This open-air shopping center features a mix of popular retailers, restaurants and outdoor spaces. It’s a little farther from the hotel but makes a nice option for those looking to spend a few hours shopping.

🌊 For a Beach Day

La Jolla – Discover stunning coastal scenery, beautiful beaches, boutique shopping and great restaurants. Visit La Jolla Cove to see the famous sea lions, then explore the charming village and waterfront.

Mission Beach – Enjoy a lively beach-town atmosphere with miles of sandy beach, a bustling boardwalk, oceanfront restaurants and Belmont Park, home to rides and attractions right on the water.

Coronado Beach – Escape to the laid-back charm of Coronado for beautiful beaches, waterfront views, boutique shopping and dining. Don’t miss a stroll through the grounds of the iconic Hotel del Coronado.

🍷 Worth the Drive

Temecula Wine Country
Spend the day exploring Southern California’s wine country, with dozens of wineries and tasting rooms surrounding Temecula. Old Town Temecula also offers restaurants, boutiques and entertainment.

Julian
About an hour east of San Diego, Julian is a charming mountain town known for its historic gold-mining roots, mountain scenery and famous apple pie.

San Juan Capistrano
A historic destination north of San Diego featuring the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano, shops, restaurants and a charming downtown area. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner can make this a fun alternative to driving.
